Since he and the dad are buddies, he probably felt the need to say that tho. It's sadly pretty common for people to talk to their friends about the most private aspects of their kids' lives, so the lawyer was probably in buddy mode and told him.
One of the reasons why you don't actually want your lawyer, doctor, teacher or therapist to be your parents' friend.
