I did read the Novel and I can say he never turned into an Omega he stayed a Beta. Sure he had kids but he got them not because he turned into an Omega.
It's the fairy blood in him that allowed him having kids
Technically he got kids only because of fairy blessing, and that blessing was "to fulfil his deepest most wanted wish" so I guess he really wanted Kalid's baby
