Now, to remove the only thing connecting Lumiere to the Emperor, so that the Empress can have her all to herself, she planned on killing Saphir, but Lumiere being the kind and sweet person that she is + it's her own son the Empress was trying to kill, ate the poison food herself. And now, Empress is just projecting her affection for Lumiere to Saphir. Though the Emperor hasn't made an appearance yet, so we'll see.
