What are you talking about? It's supposed to be irritating. Writing is supposed to invoke emotions. We're supposed to feel sympathy, empathy, and frustration for the FL.
Why do you expect people to read this and feel nothing? That's weird. Why do you read these stories if they make you feel nothing?

Well, irritated AT the fl seems a little unreasonable. Especially considering we know everything, and we know everyone else is acting like absolute dickheahds for pretty much no reason. But you are right that its totally fair for the readers to be irritated, cause I sure am frustrated with the family! (And the royals + nobles) They fuckin suck! As the other person said though, she doesn't have anyone backing her and when she does stand up for herself it gets twisted (as we've seen already). Ssoooo yeah being upset with the FL just seems kinda unsympathetic. Being irritated with everyone else tho makes sense

It's actually perfectly normal to feel frustrated with somebody who's making choices that you wouldn't make, even if they have a reason for it. You shouldn't be shaming people because a story is invoking strong emotions in them. You can disagree without the personal attacks.
I personally find her complete lack of ego to be incredibly frustrating. This woman has no thoughts of her own. She questions nothing, she thinks about nothing, she learns nothing. She believes everything she's told. She is a blank slate for everyone else to fill in. That's frustrating.
I'm going to continue reading because I want to see her grow as a person. I want to see character development. I want to see this very frustrating and shallow character grow into a strong and interesting young woman.

Yes, you literally don't have any sympathy since you completely judge her demeanor based on what YOU would have done in her situation instead of understanding the circumstances that made her develop such behavior. And while I understand that reading is suppose to invoke strong emotions from readers, your frustration is coming from your personal (as you mentioned) biased judgment of her, and you are projecting yourself onto her. It's all about you you you. That's not sympathy at all lol

The way that you're interpreting this story is completely correct. The way you feel about this character is completely correct. You're not doing anything wrong with the way that you feel about this story. The problem is that you think the way that you feel is the only correct way to feel. You think anyone who doesn't think and feel exactly like you is some sort of morally wrong monster.
Anyone who disagrees with you in any way shape or form is wrong. Everyone else's feelings and opinions are wrong. How dare some stranger on the internet be frustrated by a character that is in the beginning of their character ark? How dare some stranger on the internet be more excited about a character's growth than they are about the characters sad broken starting point?

why is everyone getting irritated at the FL for not fighting back as if she had people backing her? she grew up thinking she had to atone for the death of the duchess and ruining the duke's family, and she clings to the little hope that one day she'll be accepted the way the duchess and her little sister accepted her if she worked hard and be obedient. the duke's purpose for adopting her is so they don't have to hand over her little sister as the crown prince's fiance, and ethella was the only family member she cared about and cares about her, so obviously she's enduring the engagement and her family's mistreatment for her little sister's sake. There's no one in her life who truly has her back before the appearance of the grand duke
