To my understanding, they aren't fighting the mercenaries that destroyed a kingdom. The head is only using the henchmen of that drug dealer guy.

I've seen suicide mission that seems dumb but they can work it out. But this fighting a mercenary Troup that destroy a kingdom by 4 exceptional (not the best) teenagers.
This is a first time I really really think this the dumbest decision they had to do. like at least inform someone at head on like knowing some plot army will make them alive and even have an awakening
