    Actually they bathed daily or every other day! This is a myth. It was actually the Victorians that coined the phrase "cleanliness is next to godliness". Their way of bathing is just different than ours now bc they obviously didn't have pipes and running water like we do. And ofc class played a factor, commoners were probably not daily bathers depending on their access to water and soap.
    But the way they bathe is more like a sponge bath. They would fill up tubs if they had one and use soap bars or oils and washcloths or sponges with clean water to clean themselves.
    And sometimes if they didn't wash their hair often they used powder similar to the baking powder and sprays we use now in between washes.
    If they were wealthier they had large tubs they could sit in and fully submerge.
    They knew as well to wash their hands and sanitize equipment!
    Royalty often had bath rooms that were like pools and attendants that would bathe them in most cases.
    Scented oils were used a lot as well!
    So they probably actually smelled really good if they did it often enough and used nice oils and soaps
