I need an essay, detailed explanation of Ilay's character, he doesn't makes sense to me. In diaphonic Symphonia, he aimed and shot Tae with (rubber bullet, basically a toy) gun because Tae judged Ilay's character—he feels dissatisfied the way Tae questions shis personality. Tae got bruised and it hurt so much he needed an ointment to get rid of the bruise. I mean, rubber bullet or not, he looks like he has no problems taking out Tae in any day. He could kill him without remorse...

Ilay, back when he experienced first real fear in his life, it was when Tae was eavesdropping.

If I’m remembering correctly, he didn’t know the kid had put anything in the gun. So while he did point a gun at Tae, he never expected to hit him with anything.
As a character, he’s amoral, but he isn’t actively trying it hurt Tae (some of his actions are questionable to normal people’s thought process, but again he’s not normal).
After the things that happened at the end of Diaphonic Symphony, he’s wracked with guilt (as we find out in Suite).
Someone posted a very interesting in depth review of the series over on bato. If I find it I’m link it here.

No but the rubber bullet was an accident, Ilay was chocked I think he just don't like to demonstrate his emotions/is not used to it, and in this scenario they aren't alone, he was faking not knowing each other, cuz tae was yongsoo there, so, he was scared, shocked, but soon become expressionless to hide. He also said that he doesn't know himself anymore since he meet tae

I'm not gonna defend Ilay, he 'accidentally' shot Tae, rubber bullet or not, accident or not, yoongsoo Kim or not, why aim the gun at him? He looks like he loved him and he showed it by bombing the villa but had no problem aiming a gun at him. If all hard work of getting him back and only ended up shooting tae, he could've just left Taeui's ass back in the villa.

Well, I'm not defending him either but you can't expect some normal reaction of him, cuz he is not normal, he likes to see tae react from his actions so he was probably just scaring him for laughs cuz it was a "toy gun" and pulled the trigger to mess around, but yeah, would be nice if at least he said sorry like in the seringe (?) house, I feel like it was the softest he acted, and after tae runaway with xinlu it wasn't the same anymore, even though he sometimes has some "cute" actions he still is mostly "inhuman" thats why I hated the end of the novel ugh
