By chapter 6 or seven I think it’s really obvious who the bottom is. He’s clearly the black wolf that Dennis shot at earlier. Not only was he wounded in the same place as the wolf, they have the same hair and fur color, he keeps referencing “other ones “which are probably previous sheep herders that he has also tried to manipulate, that’s why the guy who gave Dennis the job told him to trust no one, and that’s why there’s so many metaphors to the bottom, growling and stuff like that. That’s why he looks so creepy. And that’s also why he asked him to kill the sheep because not only does he want to eat, but he wants to know if he tells Dennis about his other form in the future that Dennis will be able to kill for him.
