And lashes out by abuse of MC which he may have developed in there past( why mc thinks he killed someone). Maybe that's his coping mechanism ( and he thinks given there past mc will always care and accept him), and bc he knows MC also struggles with same abuse issues, wants MC to release those emotions in the same way he does, as that's the only way he knows(probably why he smiled when he saw the neck bruise, satisfiedits working and makes MC more attachedto him). So when MC said it's not normal do you really love me... ML struggles with his perception of what is the right way, will he lose MC if it continues? thus creating distance and avoidance.
