    SPOILERS

Amon is actually a dragon and not a god. Dragons live for a very long time and once they start to get bored, they go in search of their mate to satiate that empty hollowness they feel. He met Nain when he (Nain) was a human and decided that Nain was his mate since he felt interest and a connection with him that he felt with no one else (Amon can’t feel emotions like humans do and thinks of them as just bugs that are worthless), and was going to kill him since dragons can revive their mate one time but decided to wait to let Nain’s body mature a bit more (Nain was 18). At this point Amon still had the cult forming around him because they thought of him as a god, but he didn’t care about any of that. The cult decided to attack the village Nain resided in, calling them heretics and saying that they could be saved if they gave up sacrificial offerings. Nain told them that he was Amon’s mate, but they didn’t believe him and basically used him as a sacrificial offering where they tortured him A LOT under Amon’s name. When he was on the brink of death, Amon came and gave a piece of his magical shard that’s basically his heart infused with his blood to Nain, and then swallowed him whole in his dragon form so that he could create a new perfect body for him (which is the body Nain is in now). He then literally goes on a killing spree and annihilates Nain’s village, the priests who tortured Nain, and a lot more people. Once Nain wakes up in his new body he’s basically depressed and becomes even more horrified to see that Amon kills humans without a care, and even kills people that he’s close with. At one point Nain raised a human child that got killed and that broke him, to the point where Nain just wanted to die. All in all, Nain goes through SHIT and it’s all because of Amon since he can’t understand Nain’s emotions and feels no sympathy for humans. This is where the lyad family comes in and mentions to Amon that they have an herb incense that can make Nain forget his memories, and Amon agrees to use this on Nain because he thinks it will be all better once Nain forgets his bad memories. He completely wipes Nain’s memory, to the point where Nain doesn’t know who Amon is, and then builds new ones that go up to the present. News flash, Nain still gets nightmares about his past and is addicted to the herb incense that they use to make him forget things.

hahaha yeah the story is so crazy but so good i pulled an all nighter to read the entire novel and it was so so worth it. Amon is a TOTAL red flag, black flag, etc but he does really care for Nain, just can’t understand him which makes things worse. In the end, Nain doesn’t end up with Gwen/Pink hair or Amon. It’s bittersweet but Nain deserves the peace he can get. Although, the romance between Gwen/Pink hair and Nain is so sweet, sappy, and healthy. Gwen/Pink hair is a total green flag and only wants the best for Nain and to comfort him.

it’s kind of confusing because in the end Nain does love Gwen, and collapses when he sees Gwen’s body which is very injured and at the brink of death from the battle between Gwen and Amon. He’s in so much anguish and pain that his body can’t handle keeping a form anymore and starts to disappear. Amon takes him back to cult and feeds him crystals and his blood, but it barely does anything. When Nain gets the chance, he runs away from the place but Nain’s body is still very fragile and is at the brink of disappearing from the world. He disappears for a bit, idk where to but the cult still remains although they have changed their way of sacrifices from humans to fruits. Gwen is not dead, because during the battle Amon sustained a severe wound that never closed and his blood poured onto Gwen’s body which made him immortal (?). Gwen finds Nain’s body in like a desert and tells him that he isn’t dead, but Nain just wants to rest. Fast forward, Amon disappeared from the cult too, but later returns and then Gwen is seen as a pink fox (he can make dolls that he can control), and they’re both sitting in like a throne/audience room in their own chairs. Then Nain appears again in an empty seat beside them (his body is like see through/faint), takes a pomegranate fruit and eats a part of it, gives it to Gwen where he also takes a bite, and then Amon eats the rest of it. Thats where the novel ends. It’s an ending where Amon and Gwen “tolerate” each other, none of them solely getting Nain bc Nain does what he wants.
