This spoiler is breaking down the whole story and what’s going on.


To my understanding this is technically the 4th life. The 1st life, Cárcel and Ines were married to each other but Oscar being a petty, envious bitch sent out Cárcel to die at war and Ines died early, I believe due to sickness and grief.
The 2nd life, Ines and Oscar were together, but behind Oscar mind he knew for a fact that Ines and Cárcel were meant to be together, hence the abuse both Cárcel and Ines had to go through.
The 3rd life like Emiliano mentioned, the apostle gives the past memories to the people who have taken their life. Due to Ines only remembering the abuse from the 2nd life, she was determined to go into hiding and be away from Oscar’s eyes. Ines is just trying to escape from high society. It obviously didn’t work since Oscar sent out her brother to find her, had Emiliano killed. This led to Ines taking away her and her child’s life. She didn’t want to go through that same faith and become a concubine for Oscar in the 3rd life.
The 4th life, which is the story is currently at. Ines remembers her 2nd and 3rd life. Ines picked Cárcel due to him being of high ranking bloodline and a way to be away from the capital. The goal for Ines is to get divorced and become free, so Oscar can’t have her. The thing they haven’t realized yet is that Ines and Cárcel are fated to be together yet. The story is starting to push towards that realization that Ines and Cárcel were always meant to be and trying to get rid of Oscar.
