Novel reader POV + spoilers

My first review ever on mangago but as this is one of my favourite novels ever I want to put my input -- gonna be a long one. + major novel spoilers but I'll try to limit myself to not spoil the entire plot! This review will be based on the novel not manhwa.

The plot follows MC (Mun Pyeong) and ML (Cheonma). There are some cliches like faking identities/disguises but overall it's not done poorly. In fact I was really invested in every plot point. ML is investigating a former rebel of the demonic cult while MC is tasked to follow ML secretly. OTW MC meets Yun Seunghyo (who is actually ML in disguise but MC doesn't figure out for a while). Together they investigate a series of child kidnappings in the martial world which is also linked to the rebellion.

Contrary to what I thought as a simple plot at first, the author does a fabulous job at keeping you entertained and linking a single plot for the whole series and wraps up everything neatly.

Some people who don't like smut tags shouldn't be swayed to not read it because contrary to the pretext the synopsis sets up, this is a very plot heavy novel that yes, has intimate moments and some comedic elements, there is a major plot throughout the novel that extends thoroughly. However, those who do enjoy some spice will not be disappointed.

Psa for the r*pe — yes it starts off with non-con for their first time but MC consents soon after and throughout the novel ML and MC communicate. While ML is domineering, MC always mentions how he never has any kind of muscle pain/strain after and is never in pain and ML especially makes sure he doesn't hurt MC in intimate moments. MC also mentions ML is meticulous with aftercare.

This novel includes MANY wuxia elements which is surprising for a korean novel. As someone who has read many danmeis and watched many wuxia cdramas, it's quite accurate and sometimes I'd get swept up in the story and it really feels like a chinese novel. The authors thorough research into the geography is evident. The world building is really well done.

One thing I found refreshing abt this series is how MC is not weak or helpless. He has his moments where he gets saved by ML yes, but he knows his limits and areas he's confident in and it's really nice seeing a self-aware and as the novel states, a very NORMAL MC. It's mentioned many times how normal and unappealing mc which is a smth new in BL tropes where the two most handsome men in the world always fall in love. In fact, theres so many characters in this series described as peerless beauties but ML sees MC as a gem (even if MC himself says he is a pebble).

ML may seem irritating at first but his backstory gives explanation so trust the process! He is a very devoted lover and really holds his grudges on those who wrong MC which is satisfying. He also lets MC have his moments.

That being said, I really hope this manhwa can do the novel justice. I am a bit disappointed by how they already revealed ML was Baek Ugyeong's uncle in Ch 11 when this was revealed much further along in the plot and is quite a big plot point for ML's backstory.

i hope the rest of the eng trans comes soon (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜
