Story is around Catholicism thus (correct me if I'm wrong) if you die before your pre destined death you will be given a chance to repeat the life and a wish then your memory if wiped clean. 2nd, if you perform a suicide, which is considered as grave sin, you will repeat the life with all your memories intact as punishment.
1st life - Originally and supposedly destined, Ines is Carcel's wife. Ines refused to marry Oscar and THIS hurt his ego a ton lot. Alicia, the jealous bitch she is, ruined this life for her by poisoning her health. Oscar dies before his pre destined death thus granting him a wish where he wished to remember everything to his next life. To us readers, Ines has four lives but to Ines she only remembers 3 lives and why? Ines and Carcel died before their pre destined death is this life time thus they both have a wish. Carcel wished for Ines's happiness and Ines wished for Carcel's happiness.
2nd life (Ines remembers this as her first life) - Oscar now has all the memory from his previous life and uses this to groom Ines. He uses her to punish Carcel cause his ego got hurt and takes all his anger out on Ines.
3rd life - Ines met Emiliano and you know the rest~
4th life - the current plot.
