I hope that there is more to the mother's backstory than this. There are comments that said that custody usually goes to fathers in Korea. But, did she even try to watch her child from a far in some way? Were there times that she tried to help him? I feel like going on like this without explaining what happened with her would just make the readers, including me, be bitter to her. It's such a complicated feeling because she was abused but she also abandoned her child. Both could coexist. Yet it is still leaves a bad taste to me to condemn a victim but also someone who did her child wrong.

Yes, Doyoon is nice. Too nice. Or maybe, he just spent too much time experiencing all of his negative pasts that he just wants to let go now.

Bothe emotions can exist at the same time, while it's true his mother has been through tough time. We can also acknowledge she did a shitty thing to never even check on her son back, we can pity their situations but that doesn't means we it excuses their actions. Sometimes we need to learn these things. As someone who has tough childhood it's hard to accept that but slowly accepting this make me learn to forgive myself more. Maybe Doyoon deep down knows too that he can't forgive his mother for never look for him but their experiences together is still real n their memories together helps him get through life sometimes
