the idea that men and women can't be friends is ridiculous
if 2 gay men can be friends without dating and 2 lesbian women can be friends without dating then a straight girl and a straight guy can be friends without dating. there isn't some biological instinct stopping men and women from being friends, we're all intelligent enough to stay friends.

I’m straight I’ve had boy friends and it all resulted in more than just friends from their side not mine. So I don’t know abt this I believe girls can think of boys as just friends but guys might catch feelings

it's social conditioning as a result of the patriarchy for most men to be unable to see women as people and instead as proof of status among other men and therefore treat women as commodities. It probably makes things a little more difficult, but men can certainly be friends with women if they actively try to disengage with the social conditioning they were raised with. more often than not, men are told to hide their feelings, bottle it up and not speak, so when someone, especially a woman, who they've been told is "ultimate goal number 1 get a woman", treats them with basic human kindness, they mistake it for romantic intentions and can even confuse themselves.

I completely agree with you. It’s not some built-in biological thing it’s the way society raises boys to see women and relationships. So many guys are taught from a young age that women are something to “get,” not people to truly connect with. And when they’re also told not to express emotions or be vulnerable, of course they get confused when a woman shows them basic kindness it feels rare and intense, even if it’s just normal human decency. But like you said, it is possible for men and women to be friends. It just takes some self-awareness and unlearning all that conditioning.
