Agree about knocking. As for the second part i guess as they did not expect someone living with them, they might not have one or might not be used to one. Like i live alone, the only door i lock even if i have guests is the entrance one. Even though i have locks on other doors.
Obviously everyone does things differently and all facilities/room doors may or not have locks. I was just making a silly comment(〜￣△￣)〜
