I read this way long before,... on the part where the Uke said his fate was the other dude, I don't think he meant it in a way that devalue their relationship and the love he has for the beta guy. But moreso in the fact that that guy happened to be his mate by some design of fate, and the circumstance is just that, simple. He wouldn't change it maybe because what he went through lead him to who he is now and the beta guy too. It's like acknowledging the fact that something really good in the past happened. Then it end in tatters, but even after that, he can still love again, he can still be whole again and find peace again. Sure, the other guy might be in a sense "made" for him, but that doesn't mean he can't find another one as special as that guy, which potentially is the beta guy. But they are only starting to be together for real now and the uke is only learning to move on and love again, so what he said, while not as satisfying as a clear cut declaration of love and importance and choice triumph fate like many other stories, it a very realistic and wholesome and honest one still. Because that is that, it is like claiming biologically, you may fit someone else like a glove, but the nature you are born with aren't the only defining factor of your life, and personal choice and also the external circumstance that happened to you can make how things play out in wholly unexpected way. He made do with the circumstances, but imo beta guy was not the plan B. He was the one that he chooses to be with that the circumstances allow him too.
