Look his backstory is sad and I do sympathize with it. No child should ever have to grow up like that, but it still doesn't excuse his actions for what he did to Dan. I think the only way to make him somewhat of a likable character is to make him slowly realize that his actions are wrong by no longer having the other characters in the story go along with whatever he says. Kind of like a brutal reality check instead of just having Dan automatically treat him differently just because he knows his lore.

No. Make him brutally understand why he's in the wrong and have him seriously reflect on everything in a way that anyone can see he's regretful. I'm only saying this because I don't want this to be another instance where everyone hates the story because one character wasn't written to have a human process to progress. If that makes sense
