Don't worry, he's very dependable and gets along well with the MC. I also wish this was a BL cause of their chemistry. I bet you there are rumors flying around at their school about them since they sometimes act fruity with their bromance.
So far I don't rly trust the og protagonist but I gotta say I ship him with our mc especially after the last chapter I read (84)
