i'm hesitant to say it was just 20+ straight chapters of misery porn, but i'm not sure how i feel about the conclusion. in the end, taejae kind of got the best ending out of the four main (?) characters; hyemi is still living her pathetic, frictionless life, yoonchae lost everything and was driven to suicide from despair, and her ex-fiancé is still the misogynistic, soulless scum who'll probably never find true love. what i do appreciate is how multifaceted this story was; the author really took care to examine how interpersonal relationships are affected by capitalism, especially in south korea which is currently one of our world's most extreme examples of a hyper-capitalistic society. every character couldn't escape the weight of these expectations and requirements, and it eventually ruined every single relationship, even culminating in death. i'll always love a complex female character, so while i didn't love the story as much as i thought i would've, it definitely had its merits. rip taejae
