I honestly am obsessed with idol manhwas, and I eat them all up, but there are definitely ones that aren’t as well-thought out or as engaging. I still like them, but there’s some where I’m just like, “I like the mc, and the other characters are okay I guess” they’re kinda just there as the obligatory “other members” and that can lower my enjoyment of a story.(I’ll still read it though because I’m a huge sucker.) That’s one of the main reasons I really enjoyed debut or die because you get to see all the characters get developed and aren’t just dropped into a “here’s a bunch of other characters and their archetypes they’re your group members.” Situation. Of course, there are stories like these where they make me care for all of the characters, even when dropped into that type of scenario, which I think really shows the writing talents of the author. All in all, I love all idol manhwas and this is my all-time second favorite(debut or die is my favorite haha).
One thing I like about the forceful systems is when the mc had no plans to be an idol, and I love it when they have like not the usual idol smile and attitude. It’s just so funny seeing a deadpanned idol. Like, they look like they want to be anywhere but here, yet they spend the most effort because they have no choice. It really ups the stakes and keeps the story entertaining, while serving as a funny gag when paired with a dead face mc(again, why I love moondae from debut or die so much lol)
I never thought I would find an idol manga that would get me as hooked as debut or die. I love all the characters so much!!
