She wants him to stop killing but then goes to marry a man that hires assassins. Make it make sense.

Self defense it's way too different I think

It's a self defence in this case. But he called them trained assassins. Meaning they are infact trained in planned killong, that's exactly what they are. Not bodyguards but assassins.

Is it implied he uses them for assassinations? They were trained for that but they clearly act as loyal shadows rather than contract killers. He didn’t buy them but earned their loyalty based on how his father talks about it. Further, they’re not mass killing innocents rn unlike Shinpei. Bro is fucking himself over killing everyone

If he himself calls them assassins, I'm gonna assume they are unless they say they are not.

Even if we agree they are currently active assassins it doesn’t take away from the fact Shinpei is killing innocent people en masse against her wishes. It’s obviously not the same thing no matter how you twist it. You’re also ignoring the obvious reluctance she’s feeling about marrying this guy - she isn’t in love with him and she isn’t sat here like I condone your use of assassins actually, very cool. She’s entering this marriage because Shinpei (the person she still loves despite being a mass murderer) told her to. It could potentially save her (terrible) father who she still loves despite trying to murder Shinpei and successfully murdering multiple friends from the island. Why aren’t we coming for her for still loving these men? Make it make sense - she loves men who do horrible things that are against her morals because she has seen the good in them. Turns out she’s a complex character who can have feelings that are contradictory to common sense because she’s not a perfect saint. Yes, it’s frustrating that she isn’t stopping the marriage but what is she supposed to do? Shinpei has gone totally off of the deep end and If she goes with him her family dies. Do they deserve to live? Maybe not. Does she want them to die? No. Even if there were no stakes on the family side, I reiterate, SHINPEI MURDERED A LOAD OF INNOCENT YOUNG MEN BECAUSE THEY *COULD* BE ENGAGED TO HER. She cannot go with him at this point, he is irredeemable even if we as the audience like him and she loves him. God forbid a woman have a slightly realistic reaction to her ex-murderer boyfriend relapsing into mass murder.

This is ignoring all of the obvious misogyny built into the political system. When she lived on the island there was a strict hierarchy but she had some agency for the first time and chose Shinpei. She was sheltered when she lived with her family and believe she had agency over her fate but actually was manipulated the whole time by her father. She thought she could choose her future husband and her father tried to kill him. She is in a situation where her whole fate is controlled by the men around her - this isn’t a situation where she can just say nah. Her father has already clearly threatened force, this is her last chance to get a marriage that is even slightly on her terms (with her partner aware of her terminal illness). She cannot walk away without leaving with Shinpei who has already proven he cannot follow her wishes and, as per the guard he just killed in the jail, has totally fallen into the depths. She has no personal agency here anymore. Shinpei is going to kill everyone to get to her whether she likes it or not at this point. Her options are loveless marriage + Shinpei dead or her entire family plus countless innocents dying + run with Shinpei. Both options end with her dying in like 2 weeks. Why don’t we cut this poor woman some slack, Jesus Christ.
