i think its just common in manga and all to add drama but i wonder ab that (confessing when the person already has a partner) a lot too because like... who would in their sane mind decide to confess when they see the person they like is already with someone else?? imo another funny part is when i see people supporting it... but okay everyone has their own tastes. also seeing how its such a common trope (whether in manga, dramas, etc) does this whole weird 2nd lead nonsense actually happen irl lol

As someone who has spend considerable time in Japan (I was studying there), their dating culture is quite controversial compared to European/North American. What you see in the manga, for example the confessing to a person when they are in a relationship, is common and reflects real life more than you’d think.
This mindset has lots do with normalized cheating within the Japanese culture. Many men don’t see flirting or even sleeping with other women as cheating and do it quite often. Women aren’t excused from this either. Cheating and confessions of love to a taken party are actually quite normalized and it was bizzare to me while I was there and even now that I’m back home in North America.
Is it really normal in japanese culture to confess feelings to someone who’s in a relationship and attempt to pursue them? I swear in almost every romance manga I’ve read, it’s normal for side characters to actively try and separate the mcs and steal them but for some reason no one else in the story cares….the mc’s don’t even do anything either and just accept it as a challenge. I really this manga doesn’t do it. It should be more frowned upon and not seen as an everyday thing
