No I have to agree with you if this was grief and guilt he wouldn’t have acted the way he did. Why would he be so angry at his sister falling in love? Why did he essentially hold his own daughter captive in the castle just bc she had the same eyes? The fact the first thing he does after keeping Judith - his sister’s granddaughter - in the castle is to have her come sit with him so they can talk about his sister. Whether the author did it intentionally or not his feelings do delve into incestuous obsession
he didnt get mad bc she was in love but because she was in love with a peasant at least thats how i see it or maybe im just justifying it no clue
