Usually cause they weren’t actually ready to have a kid and fucked up being a parent and then their cute little impressionable grandchild comes along and it feels like a “second chance” also they get to feel like they have a very important role in the child’s life like a parent in that they wanna make decisions for them but as they’re not the actual parents they don’t have to do any of the hard stuff that goes into actually raising a child. And they’re rewarded with the child’s love even tho they didn’t really earn it because they’re the grandparents they get that love from the child almost instantly because “they’re family” and usually the parent doesn’t want to trauma dump their kid and is scared of their parents so they don’t tell the child that they don’t want a relationship with the grandparents. So yeah it’s unfortunately pretty common. In this case lucian yearned for his father’s approval so getting attention from him now is hard to resist. Such an experience to see a parent treating their own grandchild better than their own child.... I haven't seen it myself but it definitely seems like a common thing that happens
