I'm not sure why people just assume that backstories are told to justify a person's actions? Idk this take is so lame because if anything it throws light on the kind of character he is. We as readers are getting to know more about him so that we can understand him better and at the same time still hold him accountable. Both can coexist.

Victims of abuse many times end up being the abusers themself. I don't think it should be suprising given the kind of environment jk was brought up with literally no parental figure to show him love and guide him something which is entirely different than Kim Dan's. None of this will ever justify his actions but definitely gives us more context. Regarding how Mingwa plan's on his redemption just wait and watch I guess? The story is not over.
Idrk how the author is going Abt jk's redemption arc bc I see now that he didn't have a happy upbringing after all and i do feel sorry for him. He is clearly a victim of abuse but is this enough to redeem him/justify his current actions? Shouldn't these experiences instead reflect an opposite treatment toward dan than the one we witnessed?
