I'm curious in solving their issues, communicating, therapy and etc. Not a story telling by old man, and not for Dan to completely do 180 as soon as he hear about "traumatic past". The guy had an opportunity to turn his around with his studies(truly definition not to be like his dad), then he won 1 place(so the jinx would have such power compared if he got 2nd, then he would prove his dad ="he is loser", etc)...
