well...if he doesn't then he dead and the story ends xD so I bet he does
He hasn't reached level 7 yet tho, I mean he did temporarily that one that but has he? cuz to get to 10 he'd have to skip Seven unless his life flashed before his eyes and fulfilled the requirement and then right after he yearned for life which fulfilled level 8. So currently he is level 9 if he did die and he'll be trapped if he doesn't fulfill that last test
He did mention that he has to become 10th to set him free so I think he will now do some random stuff to get 10th
My guess is he will unlock the 10th to get to set him free but more like a one-time skill usage for now. He will eventually get it after getting through 8th and 9th. That's just my guess though.
Or he has to do some trials/trainings,/quest until he reaches 10th he mentioned this he can't leave without doing so
