I feel sorry for the baby gorilla, sure, he was born and raised in toxic environment he didn't choose. But adult gorilla? Yeah no, he made choices, of his own free will. Sure motivated by that unfortunate childhood, but still, choices. And he chose all the bad outcomes. He has amazing resources at his disposal and he doesn't use them, instead he chooses to not change and copies his dad. I hope he still will fall even harder, it's nowhere close the bottom he deserves.
Frankly, I don't know what's about this story- I don't like any single character here, I don't like gorilla, I don't like Dan, the damsel in self inflicted distress, but I like the story. Maybe because it's not all green flags and butterflies in stomach, but because it's unkind and just plainly brutal in a way that doesn't come across as fetishistic or funny-bad.
