the story is good and at first the antagonism between the guide and esper was interesting but it's dragged on so long i think the author is going to really struggle with having some kind of romance make sense once you stop caring about someone that's it, it's done if they're going for an unreliable narrator situation (ie mc is lying to himself) they're not doing it right bc there's no indication of that in his internal narrative, which will make a sudden revelation seem like it's coming out of nowhere obviously now that the guide doesn't care about the esper he'll suddenly start to care more or whatever but it just feels too little too late disappointing
