This is such a frustrating story because I don't want the MC to suffer. He's such a small little dumb boy, he should be protected.

It's not his fault that he ruins absolutely everything that he touches, it's not his fault that he's destructive and takes no responsibility for his actions. He can't help it! I'm being hyperbolic but I'm not far off. All he had to do was not commit corporate espionage and he'd be okay. All he had to do was not betray his husband and none of this would have happened. And even though he made the deliberate decision to be a filthy filthy degenerate thief he could have still made the situation better by being honest about it!
Of course, he still doesn't deserve to be mistreated. He deserves to go to prison and I don't understand why he's so shocked that he's about to go to prison. He might not have committed fraud but corporate espionage is still a crime you go to person for.
