I've seen a lot of writing advice say that if a scene doesn't move the plot forward, it needs to be scrapped, but here's a direct proof of why I think it's false! We need a moment to see how the characters get along, how they're at their happiest and what they do together. Without scenes like this, I'd think Izek has no sense of humor and he wouldn't be as charming! I'd think the family was only loving when they accidentally met, instead of actively pursuing spending time together! I'd think that Rubekia (RUBEKIAAAA!!!!!!!<333333) is still always in danger when left alone and outside, but now you can see her freely and happily moving about.
If you don't give reader the time to see how the characters are when they're not stressed or in danger, you'll never get to know them!
