Because it is, both the movie and the opera are referencing a ballet concert with the name "Swan Lake", the piece was made by a russian guy, he started doing the choreography and song at 1875 to only be published and presented in 1877, it's story became so popular it's known to be a ballet classic and also was majorly popularized by the movie, since before that, only elites, historians and ballerinas knew of this
