every time characters in a manhwa are complicated or have personalities that aren’t typical of the genre people give the lowest rating possible. stories on here can have graphic rape and will be loved anyway, but if the main character of a manhwa is just a regular asshole who speaks brazenly and is a snob that’s somehow more unforgivable to people. i’ve noticed this with multiple manhwas now.
i thought this was an interesting read and the two main characters felt very fresh. particularly iljo, i found him to be endearing and cute. i love his persistence and his stubbornness. he lets people think what they want about him because his own truth is all that matters to him and i really like that. people on here who say he has no backbone are simply just not the kind of people who think very deeply at all. i mean, you have to be blind not to notice how he clearly knows and mutters to himself frequently about jeonghan being an asshole lol. he calls him a bastard. he remains strong even as his “cousins” abuse him, because he’s stubbornly holding onto that connection he has to his guardian. he is strong in ways that also make him vulnerable, but that’s still strength.
and i loved seeing jeonghan realize his feeling and try hopelessly to fight them (because he thinks iljo is his cousin, which people seem to be ignoring. that’s why he’s so against it. he’s clearly not homophobic, just a total asshole who sounds harsh no matter what he says—and he even tells iljo himself that he isn’t angry, that that’s just how he talks). his way of thinking at the start was also so outrageous i had to laugh at times. like, he’s kind of clueless lol.
reading the pov of the seme for once was hilarious, because i kept thinking about how all the other pos semes you see in bls probably think the same way at the start of the manhwa, we just aren’t privy to how bad their personalities really are since we see them through the uke’s rose tinted lens.
