I want to believe that maybe the point of this story is to "romanticize" the tragedy of depicting love in the most toxic way. Let's take our MC for example, all his life he knew nothing but abuse. That's why he clung to Sixteen even if he convinced himself that Sixteen was just using him. But it was kindness, as well. Something he knew but didn't know what felt like. So now that he's stuck with a serial killer in an intimate relationship—one that was far better and kinder than what he experienced—just proves the point that love can be in a twisted form. We start to disregard their age gap and start to see it in a more deeper form (I'm not saying I condone this, it made me so uncomfortable even if I'm close to MC's age). We start to understand that they both cling to each other, and soon the love will blossom. I can tell ML is already fond of MC because that boy was a contradiction to his usual victims. A boy, yet so young, was pitiful and wanted to die in the hands of someone else. While his other victims feared death, making it more satisfying for them to be killed, this victim welcomed it with open arms and a warm embrace.
I can understand where ML's coming from with his development towards MC. I'm not defending him (I actually want him to die or rot in jail according to my principles), but I don't necessarily think he wants MC because he's a child (he's still a pedophile, though). Probably because he's uncertain of his feelings and show it in the form of intimacy because he doesn't know what's love other than sex.
That's my thoughts so far. This isn't particularly my genre, nor do I enjoy it. I guess I'm reading it because it's interesting. It's a bit concerning that a lot of people actually like this because it makes them happy, which is weird. But a weird manhua will definitely find its right audience—along with an equally weird author.
