I had the same problem. Somethings iffy with chapter one. I had to read chapter 1 on a different site. The problem is fixed on chapter 2

No, chapter 2 is properly chapter 2. If you go onto a different website you can read chapter 1. It goes into how MC is looking for his lost brother, he's sleeping with a redd head informant girl for information, the same girl you meet later. He gets a mercenary job protecting a "sacred artifact" so that he can check the temple for his brother. The entire mercenary squad is killed by the heathens, and MC opens the carriage door to find ML.
