I had to learn empathy from those around me because I didn’t give two shits about the people around. Because literally you stay in survival mode 24/7 and it’s I’ll get them before they get me mentality! I felt like people weren’t genuinely nice but were only nice to me because they thought they could use me. When you grow up being abused and used you really do grow different. Them too we were teenagers when we met. Could you imagine people saying that to and about a teenager! But it truly is different strokes for different folks but a lot of had to learn empathy,
This is exactly what I’m trying to explain in the comments bruh. Empathy is hard to find nowadays. They see a child getting abused and are just like “I’m not gonna feel bad for him cuz he’s gonna grow up to be a jerk” like whatttt
And that is exactly why we grow the way we do! We felt like people didn’t care one way or another so we did whatever we had to! A lot of these readers come from a life of privilege and shelter. And when readers like you or me say something we are wrong because in their perfect world there is only one type of way to live and grow. That is why I try to stay away from this comment section because they can’t handle the complexity of the story!
Irl ppl would be warped too personality wise like jk if they had his backstory. Its interesting how similar experience could change a person in a different way. Some would grow more empathy while some may go down the wrong path n end up as offenders. So its not like jk is inherently bad guy just misguided n needs self reflection to attune to his feelings which he Has separated from as means of survival. I hope dan wont forgive him easily n I hope jk takes the rejection as a catalyst to start working on himself
