I thought it was pretty wholesome and understandable tbh. In the sense of why Remi reciprocated. I totally get why some feel that Remi was too Emi obsessed in choosing to be with Angel because of his feelings for “Emi’s Remilia.” That being said, I think it’s a good ending for her. I feel Emi’s Remilia, at least in the end, was more than just MC acting like Emi to keep her “alive” in the world and get revenge for her, but also a way for MC to live, too.
In the epilogue / extras (or maybe the last chapter), Remilia talks about how nothing and no one in the world wanted her to exist, how she was destined for ruin and how painful the malice of the world was. Emi was her only light because she was the only one to extend any sympathy or kindness to Remilia. I saw her acting as Emi in the end as a way to continue making the world a kind place that made people want to live in it, whether it’s herself or others. Because if there is “Emi”, however fake, in the world, there can also be “Remilia.”
Therefore, Angel loving Emi’s Remilia, and Remilia liking him back because of that, I saw it as her being willing to extend those feelings because he was so clearly different from the people and world that worked so hard to crush Emi’s kindness and Remilia. Him loving the version of herself that she wants to be. Not only that, it’s clear that he likes her for her kindness, not because of any political gain or anything and did not have any of the same petty jealousy or tendency towards control as the other men. For him to have such affection and understanding (viewing her even better) even in situations when everyone else was surprised or shocked (like making sure Pina doesn’t get death penalty even when it would have been more advantageous) probably reminds her quite a lot of Emi.
On another note, I don’t think anyone else would have had any chance with her. I thought the way the manga resolved things was cute (especially with Emi and the original Pina becoming their children) but I could also see the way the original novel did things (and honestly expected there to be no pairing in the end).
