todd was a coyote that successfully manipulated dennis which was seen as just another sheep in his eye. he didn't actually like him, as the employer had said there has been other victims but for dennis this was the first time he has felt such a strong connection with someone. I think the void and darkness is a symbolism of his mind, (he was losing it ）

coyotes are known to lure dogs by being sweet and friendly with them, maybe there could be symbolism in the fact dennis lost a dog and being lured into the cliff lol idk
