Eh its not really justifying and more like me analyzing why the duke reacted that way. Im trying to put myself in his shoes and imagine what was going on in his mind during that time. I dont really take stories are seriously as other people seem to do. Its a story and most of its elements dont even apply to the real world so chill out.
Im just tired of psycho semes, this stuff is pushed so much in bl, (especially historical bl) so when stories that have a decent/slightly verbally abusive seme people praise him for being the BARE minimum, Im just a bit fatigued
Tbh if I was the Duke, I'd kill Lauren in the original too. Cause he never really fell in love with Lauren, he fell in love with the one who wrote the letters and because of his misunderstanding, he ended up killing that person. And ultimately, the reason for his misunderstanding was Lauren. Cutting off his tounge so he may not speak, so he can keep up the illusion that Lauren was the one behind those words. Kinda sad. But also crazy. I'd go crazy too if I found out I fell in love with the wrong guy and killed the real one.
