I get what you're saying but also romanticizing this behavior is lowkey problematic. There's literally video essays about how twisted this story is and how it inconveniences actual victims, fiction can influence reality.
i agree with you, the behaviors being displayed would be problematic if influenced into reality. the depiction of abuse/sa in ANY media can be questioned, the article by Roxane Gay “The careless language of sexual violence” talks abt this, a good read for this topic, maybe a little outside the box.
this story has a huge grey area in which most things that occur were in contract, even though one can say he was coerced into it, he does not attempt to break his contract.
but i don’t believe this author deserves the hate they’re receiving when there are so many other stories in the yaoi genre that get idolized for having much worse/ the same topics displayed. i think it’s hypocritical for anyone to say this story is bad when they go on to read things like LITC, lowtide in twilight, CODE NAME ANASTASIA, and from what i’ve been hearing, reverse thinking.
it is a problem with the genre and overall the type of media that gets the most attention today, not just this one author. (it also doesn’t make sense to me for people to push out post after post bringing more attention to something and continuing to read it, even if u say u don’t like it, but it’s okay !!!!)
