i agree on how would u even remember someone as a kid but i think in this specific story, what he remembers is the smell n possibly the uniform. n now that he’s smelled the scent (the day they re-met) AND seen the uniform, his memory is putting the rest of it together. i don’t even think he remembered the kid or thought it might be him until now which is why he’s like wtf.
