Marchioness talks to FL because FL is planning to make some investments in the west. What I got out of their conversation is - FL is trying to gather some leverage there, maybe with future territorial influence in mind. Marchioness points out the emperor wouldn’t like that. So FL makes a threat of sorts - that duke Ebron is the one protecting the mainland from the monsters so they should not take him lightly. And even though the ML is loyal, devoted and righteous, she wouldn’t mind abandoning the north if needed. She needs a refugee (such as the west) if the war escalate so stopping her from taking safety measures would be like telling her and the dukedom of Ebron to die on their own for the empire that doesn’t wish to help them. And in that case they could just abandon the empire, it would lose its shield. Okay, I get it, kinda?
But then the marchioness mentions that it might not be a threat but rather an excuse for the emperor to collect the resources to give to the north??? Where did that come from? Does she mean that the nobles won’t be able to protest against the emperor aiding the north? And then the daughter is like OMG he can gather the supplies and give weapons to some random noble that was never mentioned before!! Mother!!! Duke Roger will pin the blame on you if that happens!!!
Like what???? Did we skip a part of the conversation? Where did all these random conclusions come from? Pin the blame on her for what? The nobles looking down on Ebron? The north not having enough supplies? The emperor providing weapons to some general? What does it have to do with what the conversation that started from - FL decided to do some philanthropy work in the west.
Don’t get me wrong, all these plot lines will probably meet and be explained but I think that while the schemes are on the smarter and more complicated side in this manhwa (which I appreciate) - the author isn’t too good at portraying them in a way that they makes a logical sense, initially at least. When they come together and play out, you kinda get what they meant. But the information that the author presents the reader with doesn’t really lead to the conclusions that the characters come up with. So the conversations are confusing until you see an actual action.
Rereading (and finishing) it after 3 years - damn, I must have just scrolled past all the political talk cause I don’t remember half of the plot points and conversations happening I have no idea how I managed to follow the story when reading it back in the day, I guess I was just here for the romance and vibes.
