Hours later, wild animals begin to emerge from the shadows. When one of them leaps toward Chase, Josh throws himself in the way and fights it off. His arm is bitten badly, the wound deep and bleeding, but he keeps battling several animals for what feels like forever until they finally retreat.
That moment leaves Chase deeply shaken—not from fear, but from the unwavering determination Josh showed to protect him. It’s hard to put into words, but that’s the moment Chase’s love for Josh truly begins.
They remain stranded in the forest for a while longer until the rest of the team arrives in a helicopter to rescue them. But as soon as they’re safe, Josh collapses, his body giving in at last. On that helicopter ride, and for reasons you’ll learn later, Chase refuses to let anyone else take care of him—holding Josh close the entire way. Even at the hospital, while Josh is under treatment, Chase remains tense and overly protective.
That’s how I remember it in broad strokes. But one thing’s for sure—after this, Chase becomes a true gentleman. (▰˘◡˘▰)
