id say its both? I think he is genuinely pining for mc, but a lot of his actions seem to be driven by manipulation- instead of genuinely apologizing and giving mc time and space, he immediately makes excuses, tries to act like everything is fine, threatens him, acts pitiable to avoid responsibility, and even lets mc hit him instead of just giving a genuine apology i think manipulation is just as easy as breathing to him and doesn't understand how to handle any social situation without manipulating someone
