I think young Diana did genuinely want to be a good person. Diana realizing how much she's changed and how her current self is opposite of what she wished for, she now purely wants to be special for herself, she doesn't value life, she only values herself.
I guess, this is Diana's worst punishment, to realize what she became. This is probably the first time I felt bad her (slightly). Diana is probably the only villain, I don't want to punish too badly like death or something(she's like a low level villain.), instead punish her with expectations vs reality wake up call.
