I dont caree! Tomato is a fruit, that doesnt mean i will call it a fruit! Im still putting it on the salad!

My pastel is a pastel, if someone wants to fight me and call it a tart i will throw hands(nicely<3).

You do realize that there are multiple different variations of a dish/food that varies through different cultures and cuisines? To you it is pastel de nata, however, there are Cantonese and hong kong style Egg Tarts each in their own language. Since it is an English translation then “egg tart” is the best way to translate :)

Also nata can also be translated as cream! Even tho pastel de nata is also a custard pastry. If directly translated then it can be referred to as “cream/custard pastry” however this translation is very vague as it does not specify what kind of dish it is in English. While “egg tart” has been popularized through many years in the dim sum restaurants and Chinese bakeries, so it is more commonly known as egg tart in English :))

    Thats a nice curiosity!
But wouldnt it be more accurete if they had used pastel? For exemple we also have 'tarte' , wich means tart, so by tart they are referencing a totally destinct thing. Well linguistics i guess. But its more in the semse that if someone says tart, im gonna think about tarts.

Acctually i was thinking and i remebered there exists' tarte de nata' wich is similar to pastel, but on the bigger size! Like a cake. But they also exist on smaller size, and are called tarte the same way. Then why do we call one pastel and the other tarte? And pastel are in reality done with a different massa. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Now im having a mental breakdown with all pastries in this country lol. Acctually i think the massa for both papstel and pasteis is the same after all. Im so sleepey and hungry now.

Well it may also be that while generally it is a pastry, specifically it can be referred to as tart as it is most similar to the definition of other tarts which is an open pastry with a filling :) The world of languages is diverse and so complex!

Tomatoes are fruits regardless. Fruit doesn't determine use.

Cucumber, zucchini, tomato, apple, etc. are all fruits. Something being a fruit doesn't mean it can't be in a salad, moron.

Just like your egg tart is...an egg tart.
