Read the novel, as far as I remember, the ml doesn’t stoop that low, rather using the status effects to tease him. Also their relationship gets less one-sided later on in the story, when ml slowly starts to trust mc and they start working together as partners rather than servant-master. (Also ml addresses how badly he treats the mc near the end, feeling extremely guilty about it.)
