Um, spoiler perhaps, but someone in the comment section who read the novel said that the ml isn't the emperor's son. The ml is the late emperor's son. But tbh you are right. Astana and Bellsac have bad parents and that's why they turned out that way.

They don't even make good villains, even the Empress' bro ain't that hateful. While the Empress reason for being evil is a bit understandable, but still she should have schemed against her cheating Emperor, not the maid (who wasn't willing) or the love child of her husband (ml). Though it Maybe because she doesn't love the Emperor, so she isn't bothered by the cheating itself just the result of it. Since her son will have competition?┐(￣ヘ￣;)┌
