I do get why people are being understanding of the brother but to be very honest, despite all of his experiences, love, and care that's simply not his decision to make. If the parents agree then the brother really shouldn't get much of a say, and he definitely could've phrased it better. Being deaf wasn't a choice and of course it makes life hella difficult because we don't live in a disability friendly world but living in general- disabled in a specific way or not- is really fucking hard anyways. You can't stop someone from living their life just because you're scared something bad is going to happen or is likely to happen, that logic could be used in so many other places that society has deemed "normal". For e.g. a girl moving out of her house for college or a job, a child living in hostels for school, a child going on a school field trip for several days, someone going on a solo-trip, etc. Non-deaf people also get into accidents as they're crossing the streets, they can also be mugged, their houses can also be robbed, they could also have their house catch on fire because they left something on the stove and forgot about it.
I get that being deaf considerably raises the bar of difficulty and I'm not taking that away in any way, plus this manga has done a fantastic way of showing us the difficulties. But just because something isn't "normalised" in society the person affected shouldn't be made to suffer, and you can't strip away an individual's autonomy because of that. They didn't chose to be deaf, but they've lived their whole life this way and I'm pretty fuckin sure they know more about what their own capabilities are than their siblings. And thankfully the parents can also recognise that in this instance.
